I find myself across the atlantic headed to Bermuda, Antigua and Barbados. I was averaging -400fpm landings. I was strolling around Gatwick, when I found my relief First Officer. I had enough time to introduce myself to her, we grabbed a quick cup of tea and discussed the flight plan, she has been to TPBP quite a few times. The Captain, or should I say the relief Captain was watching me like a paragon falcon, getting ready to pounce on me like it's prey. There is the 99% joy part but then there is the 1% sheer terror. Sometimes it hits you, you are in charge of 160+ lives. To pass the time we have fun up in the flight deck, I could name some stuff but David Yanofsky would be after me. I will be posting blog hopefully on the 24th of January.
Hey guys, I'm back. I haven't really been doing many flights lately. Crew Sked is kinda messed up. So, I have had a long break. I plan to fly EGLL-KDFW LHR-DFW with Aidan or John. Funny story, first time going to the airport for a flight, the captain was late at the flight was delayed for 10hrs. 10hrs later, I wake up, I go to the airport, and the Captain wasn't there, he thought he had a flight 2hrs later. 3rd time, I wake up. He shows up, I am ready for the flight, and the flight got delayed. 4th time, I am ready for the flight and I hope he shows up. 20mins later no sign. Crew SKED said it would be at 8:00PM I read off of the paper while he reads off of the iPad. 5TH TIME. He thought briefing was 2hrs earlier so, the flight was officially off. Hopefully this time I can have Aidan as the pilot (we in for the long haul buddy). That was my 2 months!
Hello fellow pilots, it has been a month and I have been super busy, but now I am back. I have finished my papers with AAL and I am ready to work! My first flight is AAL 021 EGLL-KJFK (I think) on Nov 1, I am very excited! With my free time I usually study, play soccer, joke around and spend lots of time with family.
I have my badge my crew pass and my passport, I am ready to fly. This is it, I will update you guys from the airport! So our flight is in progress and we took off without any problems, just having some great conversation with my Captain! Now it is time to land, I get my self situated for the APP into KJFK using 13L. Weather was light rain and light winds so it wasn't going to be that hard. As I approach minimums, I called for flaps 25, everything got quiet, so quiet you could hear sounds of cameras snapping photos. Once when the radar altimeter started calling out 100,50,40 my legs started to tingle with excitement but fear, 30,20,10, the gear touched down at -600FPM (isn't the best at all). N I have to wake up at 2000 to fly a 2200 flight to VTBS (NBK). I gear up (eat some dinner) and jet off to Heathrow. This will be my last trip with WLS until I move to AA or a Oneworld Airline. WLS is puting pilots either to BA or AA and a tiny bit to CX. But I am going to AA! 8:20PM I start my duty timer and I am ready for the flight, I find my Captain, and we brief for the flight. 8:40PM Weather reports etc. 9:01PM We finish Briefing and we head off to the Aircraft (B772 EGLL-VTBS). 10:22PM We had a delay (comms issues) but we got that fixed. 10:30PM We jet off to Bangkok. 11:20PM we reach our cruising altidude and we start our dinsert meals (Dinner and/or Desert) I just get some Ice Cream and I am good. 12:40-2:31AM I keep checking off the waypoints while talking to ATC. (On flights with a lot of waypoints you can skip a few waypoints but not the crucial ones). I get relived from another pilot and I get a 3hrs rest. 6:00AM-9:00AM I wake up and I get ready to relive the other pilot. My Captain and I brief over the descent. We got a visitor up on the Flightdeck, who was an Air Traffic Controller and a pilot. He was flying a flight on FSX already. We begin our descent and it was a long one, it took us about 35mins to get to our final vector. At 8:55AM we touch down nice and soft -126fpm. At 9:02AM we get everything shut off and we head for the layover hotel. 11:20AM I am tired and I just reached the layover hotel, I got like 20mins of sleep and I had to go out. TIP: On landing, what I like to do is to be about 3 white and 1 red but you are really close to 2r 2w, right when the countdown hits "100" start to pull back the throttle (make sure you are about 15kts above your touchdown speed) once when the word "50" is called out you should be perfect with the PAPI or VASI (even though the PAPI is unreliable at that point) then you you will either touchdown on point or just go a little bit farther than the touchdown point. Also aim your aircraft for the spot at "500". That is it, I got home safely (not the best landing). Have a nice today 8:00AM: I am delirious and not making sense and I turn off my alarm and fall back asleep. 8:30AM: "Oh no I am late" (said every pilot). I grab my uniform, put my watch on and I forgot to pack my clothes, I just throw a V-Neck and running pants into my suitcase (trip was going to be a day trip, but it changed). 8:47AM: Check-in and start my duty timer. You always have that one hypocritcal pilot who would say "why are you late" I just make the smart remark saying "Didn't you miss your flight due to a broken suitcase wheel?" 8:50AM: My Captain is late for briefing, finally my Captain shows up and says "I slept in a bit". 9:26AM: I finish up briefing and we have to catch the bus to our aircraft. 9:31AM: I finish pushback just in time. 9:45AM: Just departed for BOS.* 10:00AM: I just reached my TOC (Top Of Climb) and I put my feet up on the yoke and relax (Don't tell my boss). 2:30PM: Preparing for descent into KBOS on the SCUPP arrival. 3:20PM I have the runway in sight and I forgot to call for Flaps 20 and I am too fast, I call for the go around and I am good to go. ATC gave us the option to continue the Go-Around route or turn and line up for landing on 33L. We reached our MSA and we verified the gears are down. 3:30PM:Touch down, nice and smooth. We pull into the gate at 3:34PM BST. ** 3:55PM: I walk into the crashpad (Hotels where full. I get some rest and prepare for the flight Tomorow. Subscribers list, put your email in the comments and I will alert you if there is a new post. Hey guys, it's Jay here, I am a first officer with Wiltshire Airlines. Now, let us get to the news. So as you might have heard, a Malaysian B777 went missing two hours after takeoff. So, I was wondering if some of you guys have a theory of why this plane lost radar contact. 2nd, Do you think that we will have pilotless airliners? So, right now I'm cruising at FL320 (32,000ft) Going to SBGL (Rio de Janeiro). Today, I have a two day layover. Flying the B777 is no joke, do you think I'm just playing dress up and flying a tiny plane? Hah, I'm flying a multi-million dollar plane and my job is always at risk, one tiny shake or mistake, you're dead meat. Luckily my Captain is flying and is pretty nice. (2 hours later) Okay, I landed 600 feet away from the touchdown block (But it was a good flight overall. Now I am in room 723 in the beautiful JW Marriott hotel in Rio. The common mistakes that flight dispatchers make with pilots are the layovers, one flight, a dispatcher booked a room with one bed and five pilots, here at the airlines we determine who sleeps in the bed and who sleeps in the chair by hours they got last month, I got the bed by five hours the captain was just too lazy to fly the extra leg. Most of the Pilots in the hotel are tired, one guy fell asleep in the elevator, another 20 feet away from the Breakfast bar. But overall it is fun staying in hotels. Did you know ). So right now I am typing this from FL300 (30,000ft) right now I am heading back to London and it was hot in Rio. I will get back to you all when I am on the ground. So, I am parked at the Gate engines are off and I am home. This was an awesome trip, on the behalf of the Captain, Good day. Today I flew to Miami Florida. 10:00PM is by far the earliest I have ever gone to bed, in a long time. So once when I wake up at 6:50AM I get dressed and make my way to the airport. I met my Captain John and it was his first flight as a Captain. We briefed and then we headed off to the aircraft (B772). The flight was from LHR to MIA, it was a whole 8 hour flight. We had 207 passengers and about 1.1t of cargo. Once when it was time to descend, me and the Captain briefed for the descent and the approach and from there, it was a straight descent and landing. There was lots of glare on my side of the instrument panel l could barely see and that is why I had an off-centerline landing (Mr. Excuses). I taxied off the runway and I parked, it was all routine. Now I am at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Miami. Once at the gate, I saw my friend taking off from Miami to Tampa, pretty cool. This is all for now, stay flying and thanks for reading! |
